Sets New Mark for Shucking
Maurice Ivers, 19-year-old member of Knox county's famous
corn-husking family, established a record Sunday that is likely to
stand for years.
He husked 213 bushels of corn in the single day's shucking,
surpassing by many bushels any known records for this part of the
country. The corn, which is about seven wagonloads, was hauled to an
elevator and weighed.
Best known previous record was a day's husking by the late Bob
Godfrey whose record was 197 bushels of corn.
Maurice Ivers is five feet, six inches tall, He is a brother of
O'Dell Ivers, present state husking champion and holder of the
all-time state record for contest husking. Another brother is
Clarence (Buck) Ivers, several times Knox county champion and
runner-up at the state meet.
Maurice was "practicing" for the township and county husking contests
which are to be held in the next 10 days. The Vincennes township
contest will be held Saturday.
