Large Family But Very Happy

Thirteenth Child (Maurice) Born on Christmas Day at the Home of Mr. and Mrs. George Ivers in the Beall Neighborhood.

The twelve children at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Ivers, living in the Beal neighborhood, were made happy on Christmas day when the stork presented them wlth a baby brother, making the thirteenth chlld born. Mr and Mrs. Ivers, mother and child are doing nicely.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivers are proud of their large family, but are just the least bit envious of their neighbors .Mr. and Mrs. George Barmes, who are the parents of fifteen healthy children. Of the fifteen children in the Barmes family, there are three sets of twins, a fact not duplicated in the Ivers tamily.

Sets New Mark for Shucking

Maurice Ivers, 19-year-old member of Knox county's famous corn-husking family, established a record Sunday that is likely to stand for years.

He husked 213 bushels of corn in the single day's shucking, surpassing by many bushels any known records for this part of the country. The corn, which is about seven wagonloads, was hauled to an elevator and weighed.

Best known previous record was a day's husking by the late Bob Godfrey whose record was 197 bushels of corn.

Maurice Ivers is five feet, six inches tall, He is a brother of O'Dell Ivers, present state husking champion and holder of the all-time state record for contest husking. Another brother is Clarence (Buck) Ivers, several times Knox county champion and runner-up at the state meet.

Maurice was "practicing" for the township and county husking contests which are to be held in the next 10 days. The Vincennes township contest will be held Saturday.

The county husking contest will be held Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Arthur Barmes farm, on the Cathlinette road below the turn toward the St. Francisville ferry. County Agent Benson has announced officials for the contest as follows: Arthur Barmes and Clarence Ivers teams and wagons Curt Williams,official starter; Floyd Stoelting, official timer; Paul Aikman and James McCoy, judges and gleaners; Louis Webb, scales Eph Marchino, gleanings; A. C. Cox, husks, Ray Coan, tabulator.


Sharpshooter
Maurice F. Ivers, son of Mr. and Mrs, George W. Ivers of St. Francisville, Ill., has been promoted to the rank of corporal in the Marines. He also qualified as a sharpshooter on the rifle range.

Maurice is playing a real numbers game. He is the thirteenth child in the family. He enlisted in the Marines Oct. 13, 1942, and he was in the 13th Battalion.

His present whereabouts are unknown. When his parents last heard from him he was at the coast and believed ready to be sent abroad.
