Kilby Pollard Ivers
1875-1954
Kilby was born on November 18, 1875 at Jacktown, Ohio and died on
December 31, 1954 at Mt. Carmel, Ill. Kilby always said he was born
in jail. At the time of his birth his parents were the jailkeepers so
the house was probably attached to the jail. Kibb, as everyone called
him, loved to tell stories, a trait he passed to his son Keith, and
he had lots of them to tell.
Kibb worked for the Prudential Insurance Company riding his bicycle
to collect the weekly premiums in person. His first policy was sold
to George and Mary Ivers in 1899 and when Kibb traveled to the
corporate office in New York, took the policy to show them. It was
the oldest anyone had ever seen.
